Betty Young runs the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy Native Plant Nurseries – a dream job if there ever was one. Betty writes:
Dear Plant Colleagues,
After 30 years of rewarding work in nurseries, I am retiring in September.
My position supports our 6 native plant nurseries in the park. We grow over 400 species of plants native to the Golden Gate National Parks that span the central coast from south of Pt Reyes to Half Moon Bay. All propagules are locally collected and grown in best manner possible to avoid inbreeding, outbreeding or genetic drift while conserving resources used to grow.
The position directs a motivated and dedicated staff of 9, who manage the individual nurseries, plus their 5 interns, 1800 volunteers. The nurseries present education programs to over 2000 students each year. Funding for the nurseries comes from individual project budgets, our agency partners (Presidio Trust, National Park Service) and the Parks Conservancy.
I encourage you to pass along the Job Announcement to experienced visionary candidates excited about natives, community based restoration, and education, that you might know. Thanks for helping us find the very best candidate for this position.
